My biggest problem with my beauty room is that I never have enough storage or places to put things so I have been searching for the perfect shelving unit to add some decor to my room! Today I want to share with you how I took an inexpensive shelving unit from IKEA and turned it into a luxury-looking unit.
Since my room is gold and white themed I really wanted a gold “etagere” as some would call it. It’s really just a fancy shmancy word for shelving unit!

Okay but how cute is Emily Gemma’s shelving unit? I die over this picture and it is EXACTLY what I am looking for! Since my room will not allow that sized shelving unit, I decided to get the individual one instead!
Items you will need :
IKEA VITTSJÖ Shelving Unit // Rust-Oleum Metallic Gold Spray Paint // Marble / Granite Contact Paper
So here we go..
The first picture was telling me not to do this alone. But of course I did, because I am impatient and couldn’t wait for my husband, LOL!
After it was all put together, I picked up some metallic gold spray paint and got to spray painting. I quickly realized that one can is definitely not enough! So if you buy this exact shelving unit then make sure you pick up two, even three bottles.I really loved the granite contact paper for the bottom shelf. I picked it up from Home Depot for like, 7 bucks. I also added it to the top shelf and put it underneath and I think it adds the right touch without looking tacky. I wasn’t feeling the all gold look.
The Final Result !!
Overall I am so pleased with how this turned out. I know I don’t have mine filled with Chanel and Celine handbags like Emily Gemma (although I wish so badly it was), I’m totally obsessed. I can’t wait to get another one for the other side of my dresser. This DIY project was easy-peasy and totally worth the money. Gold shelving units can be $400+ and that’s on the low side!
